PANTONE colour of the year 2021

Every year, in a tradition that is honoured not only by designers and fashionistas, but also by the general public, PANTONE publishes its choice of colour of the year. For 2021, two colours will receive this honour: Ultimate Grey (PANTONE 17-5104) and Illuminating (PANTONE 13-0647). This combination of colours is not chosen at random - their combination has deep meaning and is a reflection of the times we live in.

The meaning of colours:

Ultimate Gray symbolizes strength and reliability. This neutral gray evokes solid foundations, such as rocks or concrete, and represents lasting strength and endurance. It is a colour that brings a sense of calm and stability.

Illuminating is a bright and cheerful yellow that brings energy, optimism and hope. Yellow is traditionally associated with the sun and therefore with warmth, light and hope for a better tomorrow.

Inspiration for your work:

For anyone working with glass, the combination of Ultimate Grey and Illuminating brings a wide range of possibilities. Grey can serve as an elegant base that is easy to combine with other colours, while yellow adds energy and vibrancy. This contrast can be used to create balanced yet dynamic designs on glass or ceramics.
