Brown corundum, aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃), is a high-quality, hard, sharp-edged abrasive, ideal for use in blast or injection booths.
It isused, for example, in the sandblasting of glass or steel. Aluminum oxide is also used to remove rust and old coatings, to clean surfaces, or to prepare them for subsequent operations.
Corundum is also used for pre-treatment prior to other processes or as the first stage in satin finishing (ballotining).
This blasting material is suitable for both coarse blasting and fine surface finishing, resulting in a matte finish on the blasted surface. During blasting, there is minimal removal of the blasted material.
Corundum itself is one of the hardest materials on the Mohs scale, and with a hardness of 9, it is four times harder than silica sand.
Properties of brown corundum:
- A premium abrasive for sandblasting
- High resistance to corrosion and abrasive wear
- Suitable for all sandblasting machines
Applications of brown corundum:
- Blasting glass and metal parts
- For deburring and finishing steel
- Removing deep-seated rust and paint (effective even on powder coatings and epoxy)
- Surface preparation prior to painting or metal plating
- Leveling surfaces and smoothing welds
