The viscosity of water-based organic paints (e.g. HGC) is sensitive to temperature changes. This is all the more important in the summer months, when temperatures are often exceed 30 °C.
Water-based organic paints should always be stored in warehouses with a temperature of up to 25°C and if this temperature cannot be guaranteed, the paint should be measured before every application.
The easiest way to measure is with a Ford cup with a 4mm diameter spout.
Transparent paints - recommended viscosity 22s to 27s at 20°C
Cover gloss paints - 22s to 35s at 20°C
Matte paints - 28s to 50s at 20°C
We use demineralised water to adjust the viscosity. For spray application we recommend using up to 5% demineralised water.
Higher viscosity also results in higher mechanical resistance of the paint. The recommended thickness of the dry paint application is 20 to 30 micrometers.
